The Fight For Democracy
Where Democracy Is Lost
Democracy is under siege through the use of a violent racist policy agenda and propaganda that denies our national legacy of slavery and the existence of systemic racism. This administration is actively working to erase the progress that this nation has made towards exposing the legacy of slavery (EO 14173). It is imposing detrimental legal and financial hardships upon those who seek to teach this legacy or implement any attempt to acknowledge and correct the harm that it has and continues to cause. This includes policies and programs that were created to transform institutions and organizations, civil rights and even initiatives intended to train and educate individuals on the legacy of slavery and other forms of systemic oppression.
Racial injustice and democracy are antithetical to one another. As long as racial injustice persists, democracy remains in jeopardy. The dismantling of civil rights protections, the rollback of racial justice programs, and the suppression of truth about slavery’s legacy have weakened our national stability, compromised the rule of law, and endangered our peace and security.
This regression, mirrored by the rescission of protective executive orders and the introduction of others that undermine civil rights, present a moral and spiritual dilemma and pose a threat to our democracy as we know it. .

About Raise Up Justice
Raise Up Justice is multiracial, gender neutral, intergenerational, interfaith, multi-abled, politically nonaffiliated, moral, fusion civil rights movement focussing on truth and justice and centering the legacy of slavery. We are grounded in the Golden Rule, focussed on civil rights, oriented to human rights, based on nonviolence and directed towards the beloved community.
The objectives of this movement include:
- Educate on the legacy of slavery and equal protection and the their relationship to civil rights and our democracy
- Demand enhanced State and municipal policies that address civil rights, racial justice and disparate impact
- Demand anti-racist and anti-oppression programs within state and municipal governments.
- Demand oversight transparency and accountability of law enforcement and their activities
- Build and maintain resilient community support systems for social, economic, spiritual, emotional and legal assistance
Racial injustice and democracy cannot coexist. Denying the legacy of slavery is an act of violence against democracy itself. To preserve democracy, we must restore civil rights, reassert Equal Protection, and reclaim truth as the moral foundation of justice and peace.
